P.E. – Gymnastics

Friday 23rd February

After the control and discipline required for our gymnastics sharing routines, which we performed before half term, Ospreys were given opportunity to explore the gym equipment in the school hall this week. We focussed on balancing and travelling between the equipment, finding different ways to move around a circuit of climbing obstacles, jumps and balancing routes. We then played a game called ‘Pirates’, with two pupils trying to tag the other sailors. No running, shouting or stepping onto the floor was allowed!

Art for World Book Day

In our Art lesson today we looked at Quentin Blake’s illustrations for Ronald Dahl’s version of Cinderella, found amongst his Revolting Rhymes. Ospreys will soon be performing a scripted version of the story for their class play. Pupils chose their favourite character or scene from the story to draw, and then brought their sketch to life with a choice of paints, water colours or coloured pencils. The finished artwork will form part of a classroom display for World Book Day next week.

SPAG: Handwriting with Spellings Sentences

Wednesday 21st February

Every Wednesday during their morning SPAG session, Ospreys practice their handwriting with dictation sentences. Ospreys are making excellent progress in developing their handwriting. This week, we used words taken from the National Curriculum Year 3/4 spellings list and put them into sentences. The sentences are spoken aloud and pupils then write them into their handwriting books, practicing the speed and fluency of their writing. Our focus for handwriting was to show consistency of size in our letters, particularly with the tricky small case letters m, w, and s.

Computing: Safer Internet Day 2018

Wednesday 7th February

In computing this week, Ospreys learned about using the internet safely, and began making their own e-safety posters. We discussed how we use the internet and how it helps us to communicate, and to share ideas and information. We looked at the risks there can be when posting and communicating on line, and what precautions we can take to keep ourselves safe. Pupils also completed a safer internet day quiz. Over the next few weeks pupils will learn more on this topic and add to their e-safety posters.

Gymnastics Sharing

Wednesday 7th February

After developing and improving their routines over the past few weeks, Ospreys today performed their floor routines to Peregrines Class in the Gymnastics Sharing. Pupils performed their paired routines of balances, rolls and movements, focusing on holding and controlling their shapes and poses. Two of our pupils, who perform gymnastics competitively outside school, also performed solo routines they have done recently in competition.

Art Week: Pop Art Collages

Friday 2nd February

After focussing on Andy Warhol earlier in the week, Ospreys today looked at two British artists who had an influence on his work. The pop art of Richard Hamilton and Peter Blake uses images taken from fashion magazine advertising, cartoons and celebrity photographs and places them into collages, to create pictures that are ‘modern, fun, and funny’. Ospreys got to work cutting out pictures from magazines and newspapers, and used their imagination and humour to come up with some great ideas. We will see the finished collages next week.

Maths Passport Progress!

Well done to another Osprey who successfully completed all their targets within the time limit to move up to the next continent. This pupil has worked really hard on her targets in weekly homework, and comfortably completed all questions in Antarctica correctly in 3 minutes and 20 seconds to move up to North America. Fantastic work!
