Literacy: Legends of King Arthur

Our current topic in Literacy is the legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. We today focused on the legend of the Sword in the Stone. Just as the stories have been retold over hundreds of years, we are looking at different versions of the stories to see how the tales are adapted in different ways for different formats and audiences. We are listening to an audiobook CD, reading a comic style illustrated story, as well as other written versions of each tale. In our SPAG lesson today we identified verbs in a written version of The Sword in the Stone, and then came up with more powerful verbs to replace them. We then together rewrote the opening to the story to make it more exciting and interesting, before pupils wrote their very own start to the story.
