Friday 1st May 2020

Morning my lovely Ospreys! Don’t forget to check Twitter for the Gastrells podcast and merits! I hope you’ve had great weeks, I’m still missing you all loads!

Discussion- If you could choose any animal in the world to be your pet, what would you choose and why?

English- BBC Bitesize work☺️ https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zjk9kmn

Maths- For today’s task, I would like you to have a go at the BBC Bitesize weekly challenges. Remember, these are challenges and they require perseverance. We’ve spoken in class about these and how you might not get the answer first time- and that’s completely ok!! There are 4 challenges, spend a maximum of 10 minutes on each challenge (some will be easier than others!). https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zd3q2sg

Topic- I would like you to choose any country in the world (literally, any country you like!) and research it on line or in a book. Create a piece of Artwork that represents this country. This can be as abstract or literal as you like- it is completely your interpretation. I would love to see how creative you can all get, using all sorts of materials you have at home. Post your results on Seesaw!

Mr Muskett has asked if you would like to send a shoutout to him, then he can put it on the blog (this can be thanking someone, or saying hello to your class/friends etc). Please send to jmuskett@gastrells.gloucs.sch.uk

Discussion- If you had to choose a lesson to do at the start of every day, what would you choose and why?

Maths- Compete the following sheet. Challenge yourself by adding your own extensions!

Topic- As I’m sure you guys are aware, things are a bit tricky at the moment, so it’s super important that we stick together and work as a team. I would like you to have a look at the following Bitesize page on Well-being. Once completed, you are welcome to extend yourself by creating a poster about how to look after yourself and others during this time☺️ https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z773bdm

Tuesday 28th April 2020

Hey hey Ospreys! How are you all doing? I hope you’re all having a great start to the week! Here is the work for today;

Discussion- If you could live in any period of time, when would you choose to live and why?

English- Please follow the activities on BBC Bitesize☺️ https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zm6wjhv

Maths- I would like you to cut up a piece of paper into 8 equal sections. On each section, write down the following (one per card)- +10 minutes, +25 minutes, +5 minutes, +55 minutes, +30 minutes, +1 hour, +15 minutes, +45 minutes. I would then like you to cut up another piece of paper into 8 sections and write a random time on each one (e.g 1.15, 4.35). Spread the cards out in separate spaces. Choose one card from each pile and work out the answer. For example, 4.35 + 15 minutes = 4.50. To make this trickier, add extra cards with subtraction questions on(e.g -45 minutes), and add cards which have addition of numbers greater than one hour (e.g +70 minutes or +1 hour and 30 minutes). To take this even further, write the answer in the three different formats we looked at yesterday.

Topic- I would like you to draw a selection (or just one!) of animals using the Art for Kids hub channel on YouTube. I would love these to be in colour and then uploaded onto Seesaw☺️

Hi Ospreys, this is Mrs Cathie. I just wanted to say hello to you all. I hope you are all ok, having fun and learning loads. I’m missing you all so much. Did you have a go at ‘Guess the teacher’? I spotted Miss Kelly straight away! Did you guess which one was me? I walk round Rodborough and go on the common most days with my dog, Alf, so look out for me! I spotted Rory B one day but he was too far away! Give me a wave if you see me. Take care all of you, hopefully we’ll see each other soon:)

Discussion- What are you most proud of?

English- As we have been looking at poetry, I would like you to read the following poem and answer the questions. There are 3 different levels, marked by star ratings.

Maths- After seeing your fantastic work from yesterday, I would like to make things a bit trickier!! Instead of working in 5 minute intervals, I would like you to be able to tell the time in one minute intervals (e.g. 27 minutes past 4). There are 3 different levels again, remember to challenge yourself if you can!

Music- Give this BBC Bitesize lesson a go, it looks great!! https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z7f72sg

Ospreys challenge- Draw a picture of our class, so we can pretend we’re all at school together!

Wednesday 22nd April 2020

Hey hey Ospreys! How are we all doing? I hope you’re all well, I’m missing you loads! Here are todays tasks;

Discussion- What is your earliest memory? Can you remember where you were/what was happening/who was there? How clear is this memory?

English- I would like you to have a go at writing your own poem. You may write it about anything you like! To start with, it would be a good idea to write down your topic first, then note down lots of adjectives and phrases describing your chosen topic. I would like you to follow the rhyming scheme ABAB. Here is an example from yesterday;

Stars above in the night

Hanging there, oh so high

Look at them, they shine so bright

Punching through the ink black sky.

You may choose to just rhyme every other line, like the following example;

Is a caterpillar ticklish?

Well, it’s always my belief

That he giggles, as he wiggles

Across a hairy leaf!

Send me your poems on Seesaw to earn a team point!

Maths- I would like you to complete the following worksheet(s) relating to time. Think about how the minute hand moves quicker than the hour hand- why is that?

Science task- Follow this link to the BBC bitesize lesson and have a go at the fun tasks! https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zjjx6v4

Ospreys task- Have a look on Art for Kids hub (YouTube) and draw a cartoon. Be as creative as you can!

I hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine we’re getting at the moment- my daily walks have been very pleasant! What is your favourite thing about this weather?

Discussion- Would you rather live in a castle, on a boat, or on a cloud? Why?

Maths task- you will need your clocks from yesterday, your home learning books and two objects you can use as clock hands (e.g. 2 pieces of K’Nex, 2 pencils etc). I would like you to use these hands to make different times on your clocks. Can you create the following times; (it would be great if you could draw some of these in your home learning books!)

Plain- 12:00, 2:00, 5:00, 7:00, 11:00

Medium- 3:00, 8:30, 1:30, 2:15, 7:45

Extra Spicy- twenty past seven, half past nine, two o’clock, quarter to eleven, twenty-five to three.

Once you have done this, have a look at the poem ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ and see if you can find words that rhyme as well as the rhyming scheme.

Topical task- Following on from yesterdays work with maps, I would like you to take a look at the following link and complete the BBC Bitesize online lesson. These lessons include short video clips and interactive activities to complete- they’re a lot of fun! https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhtyvk7

Ospreys task- How many times can you fold a piece of A4 paper in half? Do you think it would be different with a different size/thickness of paper?

Term 5 begins!

Hi Ospreys!

I hope you’ve all had a lovely (although slightly different) Easter holiday! It’s been great receiving your videos- you have until Friday to send me one!

English task- We are going to be focusing on poetry for the next few weeks. Today’s challenge is to find and read some poems from a poetry book (or from online).

Maths task- We are going to be looking at time this week, so your first task is to draw an analogue clock, filling at least an A4 piece of paper. Don’t draw any hands on it but ensure all the numbers are in the right place! Do this in any colours you wish!

Topic- We are going to be looking at Rainforests this term! Your first task is to use a map/Google Earth to locate any Rainforests in the world and find out where the biggest rainforest in the world is situated.

Ospreys task- The staff of Gastrells have sent in a photo of themselves when they were your age (4-11). Have a look at the pictures below and see if you can guess who is who!!
